Where to celebrate Valentine’s Day in Italy? Sirmione was nominated one of the most romantic places among Italy’s small towns by Condé Nast Traveler magazine. In this post I want to give you some tips on what else you can see on the largest lake in Italy and what are the most spectacular locations for photos on Lake Garda.
If you manage to visit all the big lakes of northern Italy, you will easily notice that the landscapes are very similar: the bright blue-turquoise colour of water, the lush green of the surrounding mountains and the small towns, so tiny that it is easy to confuse one with another. However, the pace of life on Lake Garda is slower, the villas are less pompous, and there are fewer tourists compared to Como. It all creates a more romantic atmosphere, which is ideal for a weekend together.
– In addition to the famous town of Sirmione with its Scaligero castle, you should definitely include in your programme the castle and the town of Malcesine. Panoramic views from the towers are sublime, and the streets are no less picturesque.
– Do not miss the island of Isola del Garda, which is privately owned by the Borghese Cavazza family, but open for visits. The majestic villa and well-kept park are favourite places for romantic photo sessions and newlyweds from around the world.
– In the north of Lake Garda, near the town of Riva del Garda, the Varone grottoes are very suggestive. But it’s better to visit them with warm sunny weather: while making your outstanding shots you will surely get wet.
– And now my most personal advice: finish your day in Sirmione’s baths. Relaxing effect and romantic mood are guaranteed!
